Be more satisfied with Less
VIA The Philosophy of the Ancient Greek Guy That Everyone Forgets: Epicurus
What are the moments that actually make you happy?
Think about it. Deeply. 🕳
I’ll give you a hint: it’s not the Instagram stories or the fancy car. These things might feel pleasurable, but they won’t bring you long-term satisfaction. The vehicle itself doesn’t make you feel like an over-caffeinated 4-year-old on Christmas (happy). But, the emotion tied to it could.
It might make you feel validated or accomplished. But there are happier feelings than buying an expensive chunk of metal.
I think our society causes us to forget that. We don’t know what makes us happy. We think we know, but then we spend our money buying things we might not need.
Why? Because we’re not trained to ask ourselves the right questions. (I mean… hello, schools just teach us to answer questions, not ask them 🥴).
When you ask the right questions, you gain a whole new level of understanding, which you can use to construct an actually happy life.
I’ll throw it at you again: what are the moments that actually make you happy?
Objects don’t makeup moments. Feelings do. During your happiest of times, you’re likely experiencing friendship, mental clarity or pursuit of a quest (mission).
