A guide to Menopause

Yup, from a youthful science nerd. (Foundation of Femtech series Part 2)

I was starring at a duck the other day.

I don’t know if I’ve been spending too much time alone, or if this duck was obscurely charming, but I started talking to it.

I was telling him about menopause.

See, I spent the past few days listening to podcasts and reading papers about menopause. It was a little stuck in my head.

Now, this might seem odd given that I’m no where close to experiencing menopause. (Or pre-menopause symptoms for that matter). But, I’m curious person so I go down rabbit holes every-so-often.

But this menopause rabbit-hole was different.

It made me confused. So confused that I had a conversation with a duck in La Jolla, California (great scenery though!). You get my drift, I was being weird, but why?

We “prep” women for their bodily changes when they’re young (e.g., periods). Yet we don’t for their experiences when they’re older (i.e., perimenopause and menopause).

This is especially terrifying since we don’t even do a good job of prepping for changes during youth.

My first time going through mensuration was not a pretty one. I was going home from school, and I had these horrible cramps. They were so bad I nearly fell while walking.
